PARKRISE STREET ART

The Parkise live street art event debuted in 2010 at Oneway Project Street Party, a one-day laneway event showcasing art, music and fashion to the broader Gold Coast community. For this curated project I invited Berlin street artist Mymo and local artists Claudio Kirac, Sam Smith, Georg and Kitty Horton to creatively transform the wall in front of a live audience of 6,000. Claudio had this to say about the event: ‘The vibe and excitement on the day was electrifying, As I worked through my piece I would glance around me and the crowd thickened and swarmed to view all the artists at work. The turnout was absolutely amazing and it made the day, turning into night, a real festive atmosphere with a proud local presence. I personally think it would be great to see the Oneway festival as an annual event, with the (Parkrise) wall as a canvas being transformed every time into a new living and breathing art piece.’

A Street Art forum with street artists Anthony Lister, Randal Breen and Mymo was scheduled during Lightmares to compliment the Parkrise event. After Oneway the mural was displayed on the building wall for a year, and fast became a ‘must-see’ for the thousands of residents and tourists who passed through Surfers Paradise. As an ‘outdoor canvas’ the artwork gave the wider community a chance to view, touch and access the work any day or night. It became a new addition to the city’s new cultural pattern. The mural later featured on ABC TV, 612 ABC Radio, Gold Coast Bulletin, Scene Magazine, and recently on Getaway TV on Channel Nine. The mural also made it to the Precinct magazine cover in 2011. In 2011 I re-branded the project to Streetcube, and invited street artists Gimiks Born, Shida, Beastman and Jae Copp to create a fresh new mural as part of Oneway Project’s return. The project also included artist talks and a community workshop. View the 2011 project here.
