Streetcube is a street mural project that injects vibrancy to cityscapes. Local, interstate and international artists are brought together to conduct collaborative murals and engage in dialogues with the community through artists talks and workshops. Streetcube began as part of Lightmares, a curated multi-event professional development program in 2010, and was the main drawcard in 2010 and 2011 at Surfers Paradise Festival’s Oneway Street Party. Watch this space for future Streetcube projects.

In July 2011 four of Australia’s most talented emerging artists BeastmanShidaGimiks Born and Jae Copp came together for the first time to participate in Streetcube. For this project we conducted an all-ages workshop, artist talks and a large-scale collaborative mural where the artists were invited to explore the four seasons theme: Winter (Shida), Autumn (Jae Copp), Summer (Gimiks Born) and Spring (Beastman).

Streetcube followed on the success of the first year’s Parkrise mural project, and was held on 9 July as part of the Oneway Project party. The laneway party attracted 12,000 people throughout the day and evening, and also showcased musical performances, exhibitions, live art and pop-up fashion stalls. Today the mural serves as a souvenir of this one-day celebration of culture. At its core, Streetcube promotes street art as a positive, socially-relevant practice, and is a contribution to the recent creative surge we continue to witness on the Gold Coast.

Streetcube has received press coverage from media outlets such as Getaway TV, Art Monthly Australia, Art Nation, Gold Coast Bulletin, ABC Radio and Monster Children. The current mural can be viewed 24/7 at Parkrise building, Alison and Appel St, Surfers Paradise. In 2011 Streetcube received generous assistance from an Arts Queensland grant.
