Filipinos are the fifth-largest migrant community in Australia, and within this network is a growing plethora of Pinoys who regularly contribute to the wider arts and culture ecosystem.

My personal practice brings me in congregation with countless of Filipinos, so after years of exchanging names and recommendations through social apps, emails, screenshots and pieces of paper, I set up an opt-in list in September 2024 and shared this around via word-of-mouth. Barkada Index is a centralised and agentic way for Filipino diaspora in Australia to connect, amplify talent, discover similar interests, and share work or practices.  In Tagalog, β€˜barkada’ means β€˜a group of friends’ – hence Barkada Index!

You’re invited to join this database if you are:

  • of Filipino ethnicity and living and/or working in Australia;
  • and you are practising across visual art, writing, creative cooking, publishing, performance, theatre, music, dance, architecture, organising, cultural development (or any practice mainly anchored by creative processes).

As this list grows, I encourage everyone (not just Pinoys) to browse this Index and share this to your circles so that we can further support and uplift Filipino world-builders. πŸͺ…πŸ‡΅πŸ‡
